growin' tips...
Dicentra (Bleeding Heart)
All grow best in partial to full shade and rich, moist soil. They tolerate full sun in the North provided the soil remains constantly moist. Dividing is rarely, if ever, required. D. spectabilis goes dormant in mid- to late summer. Interplant with companions such as Ferns or Hosta that get a late start. In the South, D. spectabilis can be nipped by late frosts; cover with a sheet or an overturned peach basket on cold nights. Flowering may stop entirely in the heat of southern summers or inland western summers but will resume with the arrival of cooler weather in the fall.
