growin' tips..
Narcissus

Daffodils prefer full sun and well-drained soil. They will usually tolerate half-day shade, though some may produce fewer blooms. Pink-cupped cultivators generally retain deeper color when planted in partial shade. Plant bulbs 3-4 times their height deep-generally, 6-8" for larger varieties; 4-6" for miniatures. Deep planting in light soil encourages perennialization. If your soil is heavy, try planting shallower than we recommend and making up the difference with a layer of mulch on top. Plant 4-6" apart and the miniatures 3-4". Occasionally, a small bulb is attached at the base to a large one. The smaller one may not be of blooming size yet, so we recommend that you leave them attached and plant them as one bulb. After several years, you may notice that a large clump of daffodils is producing fewer or smaller flowers. To rejuvenate the clump, you can dig and divide the bulbs as soon as the foliage starts to die back but is still visible. Separate the bulbs gently; do not tear them apart, or you may damage them. You can replant at once or, if necessary, store bulbs over the summer. Allow them to dry, then remove excess soil and store them in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area. The bulbs and foliage are poisonous to most insects and animals.

Daffodils are poisonous to most insects and animal, therefore, if you have problem with critters eating things in your garden plant a few daffodils throughout and the critters will go elsewhere.
